History
Shortly before the establishment of the Republic of Türkiye, the Izmir Economic Congress, convened between February 17 and March 4, 1923, envisaged the rapid establishment of a national industry. The idea that the industrialists of the Aegean Region should join forces under one roof in order to protect their professional interests sprouted in parallel with the Izmir Economic Congress.
In 1927, a group of manufacturers from Izmir decided to overcome the lack of an organization of their own while rapidly increasing their presence in the industrial field and officially established the “Izmir Industrial Union” on September 11, 1927.
In 1950, with the entry into force of the Chambers Law No. 5590, Chambers were given the qualification of ‘Public Institution’ and for the first time, the definition of “industrialist” was made and industrialists were allowed to establish separate Chambers. The legal procedures were completed and on December 1, 1951, our Chamber started its operations with 612 members under the title of Izmir Chamber of Industry.
With the decision of the Republic of Türkiye Ministry of Economy and Trade dated 19.10.1953 and numbered 4/13717, it was deemed appropriate to establish a Regional Chamber of Industry, with İzmir as its headquarters, covering the provinces of Aydın, Balıkesir, Manisa, Denizli and Muğla. The Izmir Chamber of Industry was thus transformed into the Aegean Region Chamber of Industry (EBSO) in 1954, becoming the first and only Regional Chamber of Industry in Türkiye.
Today, our Chamber, whose field of activity is Izmir and which gathers the industrialists of Izmir under its roof, maintains the name “Aegean Region Chamber of Industry”, which has been registered as a trademark, and since its establishment, it has been carrying out effective activities in areas such as strengthening professional ethics and unity, accelerating industrial movements in the region, encouraging the transfer of capital to the industrial sector, providing technical assistance to entrepreneurs who will make industrial investments, establishing Organized Industrial Zones in order for factories to produce under the conditions required by today, and leading the ones to be established and enacting laws to develop the industry.
Today, the Aegean Region Chamber of Industry, one of Turkey's longest-established institutions with 67 employees, is the first industrial organization after the Republic, the institutionalization of university-industry cooperation, the establishment of Izmir Technopark A.Ş., the first Technopark company in Turkey, the creation of Organized Industrial Zones, as well as many other works that have made an impact on the public opinion. In order to provide much better service to our industrialists, the producing heroes of our country, our Chamber started its quality journey 30 years ago and became the first Chamber in Europe to have the ISO 9000 Quality Management Standard in 1995.
In the international accreditation system carried out by the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey in cooperation with the European Union of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (EUROCHAMBRES), EBSO, which was among the first chambers accredited in our country and sustainably renewed its accreditation at the ‘A Excellent’ level in the audits, has progressed rapidly on its journey of excellence by raising the quality bar day by day, 10002 Customer Satisfaction Management System, 27001 Information Security Management System, as well as Management System Certificates such as 27001 Information Security Management System, our Chamber, which has achieved an unprecedented success in the country with two awards in 2014, embracing first the KALDER Aegean Region Excellence Award and then the Turkey Excellence Award, is shown as a ‘Role Model’ to our community by TOBB.
Organized since 2004 by CACCI, which represents over 3 million companies in the Asia-Pacific Region of the world, which has become a new center of gravity in terms of global production and trade, the 8th Local Chamber Awards have been held since 2004. Within the framework of the Local Chamber Awards, our Chamber, which stood out among the other Chambers and foreign competitors applying from the major provinces of Turkey, was the first Chamber in our country to receive this award, increased its recognition in the international arena and crowned its quality in service.
